Aurora-AI has grown as a new business stream of its parent company Aurora, whose expertise in computer vision goes back almost twenty years.  Our staff have qualifications and expertise in Deep Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision. There are a dozen staff focused on AI, of whom six are PhDs from world leading universities. In addition, the Aurora AI team is supported by experienced non-executive directors.

Dr Tom Heseltine,
Chief Executive Officer

Tom has a PhD from York University in Biometric Face Recognition following his first-class honours degree in Computer Science. He has led Aurora’s R&D since 2004 becoming CEO in 2016.

Lee brings unparalleled expertise in operating and developing software systems including cloud environments. He has worked at Aurora for over a decade.

Patrick Usher,
Applications Director

After a successful career in education and 7 years working for SIMS, Pat co-founded Aurora in 1998. He was Aurora’s Technical Director up until 2016 when he took a step back to concentrate on applications for the construction industry. His responsibilities include liaison with customers and partners, design of technical specifications, training and consultancy.

Shamek, Head of Research
Dr Przemyslaw “Shamek” Szeptycki,
Head of Research & Development

Shamek has a PhD in 3D face recognition from the University École centrale de Lyon in France, following an MSc and BSc in Computer Science from the University of Szczecin in Poland. He joined Aurora in 2012 and has been leading the AI Research Team since 2016.

Head of Strategic Partnerships

Nick is our Head of Strategic Partnerships. He has a long history of successful engagement with Identity Management solutions in the Air Industry and leads the initiative in Sales and Marketing to exploit our new AI technology.

Richard McLaughlin,
IT Manager

Richard manages all of Aurora’s IT infrastructure, as well as customer delivery and support.  He has over 18 years’ experience in the IT Industry and has been with Aurora for 14 years. He first joined aurora in 2004 as a Software Support Analyst before being promoted to IT Manager.  Over the years he has delivered projects to Construction, Logistics, Education, Air Industry and National Government departments.

Kevin Mortimer,
Financial Controller

Kevin is Financial Controller and heads up the administration and finance functions for the company. He is an economics graduate who qualified as a chartered accountant in 1987 and has occupied senior finance roles within the leisure, manufacturing and waste management industries prior to joining Aurora. Joined Aurora in 2011.

Hugh Carr-Archer,
Non-Executive Chairman

Hugh is the non-executive chairman of Aurora having stepped down as CEO in 2016. Following a successful career in education in 1989 he co-founded and became executive chairman of SIMS (the UK’s leading education management software company) and later led the company’s negotiations and sale to Capita. After becoming a business angel for Aurora in 1998, he later accepted the role of CEO from 2002 to 2016.

Helen Prentice,
Non-Executive Director

Helen is a highly experienced non-executive director.  Helen trained at Macintyre Hudson where she went on to manage a portfolio of SME clients.  This included Accounting and Audit services as well as advice for start-ups and growing companies.
